A desire for more scripture in our household.

Around 2016, our family desired for Bible scripture to be more visible, more simple, and more communal.  We had a couple framed verses throughout the house, but they became commonplace as we’d pass by without much thought.  We used several devotions which were edifying but were a bit too wordy with little to no engagement by each.  The devotions we used seemed only to engage the one who was reading, leaving the others to be passive recipients.  After talking through it all and wrestling with how we could make scripture more visible and communal, we got the idea to create a chalkboard to hang beside our dinner table that displayed Bible scripture.  Each of us would aim to memorize the monthly verse while also discussing its meaning.  Little did we know it would become such a central, impactful piece in our household.

During a few of our walks in 2023, we kept talking about the chalkboard, the monthly scripture memory and discussions, and how transformative it has been in our family worship over the years.  At one point in our walks, we could not help but consider how this model could be replicated for others to implement in their own homes.  All these were mere ideas at the time, but they were ideas that kept coming back up over the course of the year.  It seemed the more time passed, the more excited and real the ideas became.  As summer of 2024 approached, we decided to act upon these inspirations to replicate chalktalX for other households to implement.  We created our first batch of chalkboards and scripture sets in June 2024.  By the end of summer 2024, chalktalX was inside 11 households, impacting dozens of lives.
