Keep it Simple

Preview

Since 2015 I have used the M'Cheyne Bible Reading Plan for my personal Bible readings. If followed as designed, the plan would take you through the Old Testament 1x, the Psalms 2x, and the New Testament 2x…in one year! That’s 4 chapters each day. That’s a couple chapters too many in one day for me. With early mornings as a Principal and teacher at a 6-12th grade Christian school in Memphis, TN, it was just a bit too much to squeeze into the day. So, I followed the plan as a two year plan. A two year plan involving two chapters a day has been a strong pace.

I share this because several years ago after finishing the two year plan in approximately twenty-six months (I am learning that God loves me the same, regardless of whether I have a rich devotion in a day or miss a day), I thought it’d be a good idea to create my own reading plan. I got the pretty charts organized and began breaking down sections to read for each day. After too many days, I realized I was complicating my personal devotions with the Lord and was not engaged in being with Him. I just needed to keep it simple. I just needed to continue with the strong plan that worked so well. I scrapped my crummy attempts and started the M'Cheyne plan again.

The Verse Sets and the Verse+Content Sets are created to keep household worship and discipleship simple. To use educator lingo, they are the curricula - the monthly lesson plans, if you will - for each household to implement. Each set provides six month’s worth of content for you and your household to keep it simple.

The Verse Sets are the most basic option and include the monthly verse(s) only. The main component of chalktalX – God’s Word – is simply planned for your household.

The Verse+Content Sets are more robust and include the monthly verse(s) plus key truths, prayers, and discussion questions. Each component aids your household in delving deeper with the monthly verse(s).

Here’s the instructional page with more details regarding the Verse+Content Sets.
