Advent Reflections

The Holy Spirit uses the Bible as a means to communicate the very purposes and will of God. On the same morning I wrote this post, my Bible reading plan had me read Psalm 110. Verse 4b reads, “You are a priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek”. This is a Psalm of David, but it foreshadows a Priest and King much greater than David could ever have been, One whose priesthood and kingship is perfect and eternal and permanent. It is a psalm that foreshadows the first advent of the long awaited Messiah. And “...because Jesus lives forever, He has a permanent priesthood. Therefore He is able to save completely those who come to God through Him, because He always lives to intercede…” (Hebrews 7:24-25). A Priest who will intercede for His people forever! A Priest whose sacrifice will be sufficient to cover every sin of those saved by Him! What a Priest!

Jesus came as a babe to be the final, eternal, permanent Priest that you and I need and require for salvation. Praise God from whom all blessings flow!

Here’s a snippet of my journal entry after reading Psalm 110 that morning:

You, Lord Jesus, are a forever Priest in the order of Melchizedek. You tend to Your people with authority, with love, with wisdom, with compassion, with truth. You cannot help but tend to us these ways because You are Love, You are King, You are Wisdom, You are Truth…thank You for giving me all I need, for giving me everything: Yourself.

What a Priest we have in Jesus! What a joyous reason to celebrate Jesus’ birth, for Jesus Christ was born to be your all-sufficient Priest. He is all you need for salvation, for life, for godliness. And, He is good. Come to Him and find rest for your weary, lowly, weak soul.
