Changing Seasons, Unchanging God

Preview

In the middle of our casual conversation at a local Panera, he subtly mentioned that “life is full of different seasons”, and then he took a bite of his lunch, either his caesar salad or soup from his pick two, I don’t exactly recall. It was spoken as if none of his wisdom would ring true in my mind after our brief lunch together. But for some reason, my conscience latched onto his seemingly simple statement not too unsimilar than a goldfish cracker latching onto the crevice of a molar – it just stuck.. “Life is full of different seasons.” Maybe it latched on because he’s over eighty and knows a thing or two about the various seasons and cycles of life? Maybe it latched on because each person in our household has experienced such unique, differing seasons just in the past few years? “Life is full of different seasons.”

Glad. Sad. Good. Bad. Fatigued. Energized. Lonely. Connected. Dry. New life. Death. Fruitful…”life is full of different seasons.”

Just take a look at 2 Samuel 6 and 2 Samuel 21!

In chapter 6 King David “...danced before the Lord with all his might…[because] the ark of the Lord was entering the city of David…”. He was in a season of gladness, of celebration, of goodness, of connectedness. So what did he do amidst this season? He gave honor to where honor was due: he praised the Lord Almighty.

Skip ahead to 2 Samuel 21. “During the reign of David, there was a famine for three successive years…” He was in a season of hunger, pain, difficulty, fatigue. A crisis to say the least. And what did he do amidst this season of crisis? “...David sought the face of the Lord.” He gave honor to where honor was due: he praised the Lord Almighty.

”Life is full of different seasons.” Regardless of what season you find yourself in, Christian, seek the Lord through prayer and scripture.

As for you and your household, seek the Lord through prayer and scripture…together. Read scripture…together. Memorize scripture…together. Sing scripture…together. Discuss scripture…together.

”Life is full of different seasons.” Our seasons will vary and our lives will change. But we know that God Almighty and His Word will not vary and will not change – He is the same yesterday, today and forever. Regardless of what season you are in, seek the Lord!
